We are Geoff and Jenny Burbey, and we are Highlands Unlimited. Before a name, a permit to operate in the most beautiful wilderness in the lower 48, and over 30 pack animals, Highlands Unlimited was just a dream that we held independently. In 1993, that dream became reality and we’ve been able to share our enthusiasm for this lifestyle with countless other people whose dreams include the backcountry, a simple existence and healthy consistent numbers of quality wildlife. Highlands Unlimited Inc. has been making dreams come true since 1993.

We are the definition of a family business: the two of us, our three children, 30 head of horses and mules, and several dogs take care of everything. We mean everything. When you call, you will talk to a Burbey. When you email, it will be one of us responding. And when you book a trip, we'll be there to pack you in.

In 1987, Geoff left Ohio, for Colorado. Jenny came from California in 1988. We share a passion for the outdoors and the backcountry, and we feel lucky to have found a place and profession that suits us.

Outfitting is not only what we do, it is also how we identify ourselves. We believe in being good stewards of the land that we rely upon. We farm hay, and raise horses/mules, plus some beef cattle on the side. These separate divisions (sounds fancy huh?) all support the high quality of your backcountry trip.

Return clients are our best reward, and we're honored to have a 70-80 percent return rate. We are proud to call many of our clients our friends. We want everyone to come back and will do all that we can to make sure they feel the same way.

If substance and quality are the most important to you, give us a try. We'll deliver the highest quality backcountry trip in the San Juan Mountains (…or anywhere, for that matter!). You won't be disappointed.
